Hard Cases

What gear fits inside?

Sportube Hard Cases are designed to carry a wide range of gear, including skis, snowboards, fishing rods, paddles, golf clubs, spearguns, fins, and more.

Will my ski boots fit?

Hard Cases are not designed for ski boots. While some boots may fit depending on size, packing them can scratch skis, exceed the 50 lb weight limit, and create challenges if baggage is lost. Renting skis is generally easier and more enjoyable than relying on rental boots.

Will I be charged more for oversized baggage at the airline?

It’s unlikely. Most U.S. airlines servicing ski destinations make exceptions or have specific policies for oversized winter sports luggage, so the standard 62 linear inch size limit typicallydoesn’t apply. However, the standard 50lb weight limit usually still does. Always check your airline’s specific policy before traveling.

What are the Hard Cases made of?

Sportube Hard Cases are constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the same durable material used for ski and snowboard bases.

Why don’t the holes line up on the top half of the case?

This is intentional. The Exact Fit System (EFS) ensures the tightest fit for gear, allowing up to 10mm of adjustment. Use the hole that provides the most secure fit when closing and locking the case.

Can I lock my Hard Case?

Yes. For added security during travel, use a Sportube TSA-approved lock to keep gear safely secured. Do not use a keyed padlock, as it will be removed by TSA.

Can I mount my Hard Case to my vehicle?

Yes. The Hard Case has a gap between the handles for a tie-down strap, with a second strap recommended at the back. For temporary use, Roof Rack Straps work well, and for frequent attachment, Roof Rack Brackets provide a permanent solution.

Who is responsible if damage occurs while traveling?

Sportube cases are extremely durable, but dings, dents and scratches can happen. Generally, airlines do not take responsibly to damage to luggage as they deem it normal wear and tear of traveling. However, if you see significant damage to your Hard Case, inspect the gear inside, document it, and file a claim with the airline before leaving the airport, as late claims may be denied. Most airlines only accept liability for hard-sided cases.

How can I keep the TSA from damaging my Hard Case?

While TSA or baggage handler damage cannot be completely prevented, the risk can be minimized by:

  • Packing gear snugly and adjusting the case to the shortest length that fits.
  • Securing the case with a case pin or TSA-approved Sportube lock.
  • Inspecting gear immediately upon baggage collection.
  • Filing a claim with the airline if damage occurs.
What do I do if my Hard Case is damaged by FedEx/UPS, airline, or accident?

Inspect the case and contents upon delivery or collection. Report and file a claim directly with the carrier before leaving the facility.

How do I clean and maintain my Hard Case?

Wipe down the HDPE exterior, or rinse with water for heavier dirt, then dry. Store the case in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight when not in use.

Do you have replacement parts for the Hard Cases?

Yes. All replaceable components are available for purchase here.

My case is older—will new replacement parts fit?

Yes. Wheels and axles fit all generations and sizes. Older Series 3 cases with red fabric handles can be replaced with the current black handles.

How do I know which case I have?

Genuine Sportube cases always have the name molded into the top half. Series numbers indicate capacity:

  • Series 1: 1 pair of alpine skis and poles
  • Series 2: 2 pairs of alpine skis and poles
  • Series 3: up to 3 pairs of skis & poles or up to 2 snowboards with boots and bindings
Does the Hard Case come with a warranty?

Yes. All Sportube Hard Cases include a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects. To submit a warranty claim, visit this page.
